In 2010, Congress passed House Resolution 275 designating the week beginning with the second Sunday in September as National Arts in Education Week. During this week, the field of arts education joins together in communities across the country to advocate, educate, and celebrate about the impact and transformative power of the arts in education.
- ADVOCATE: Raise the issue of arts education with leaders and elected officials.
- Ask leaders to pass an Arts ARE Education proclamation in support of arts education.
- Engage your elected officials to support of arts education funding and policy.
- Invite community leaders and elected officials to student performances and events.
- EDUCATE: Make sure your community and its leaders understand the impact of arts in schools.
- Host an arts focused meet and greet or forum for local School Board candidates.
- Conduct an arts education survey of local School Board candidates.
- Write an op-ed for your local paper and post it on social media (even if not printed).
- CELEBRATE: Tell the world about the value of arts education in our schools.
- Post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. about arts in education.
- Share your #BecauseOfArtsEd story during #ArtsEdWeek. (Use the #s)
